About the site
We are looking at the possibility of transforming 109 Waterdale Road, Ivanhoe, into a new local park for the community.
The site is currently a Council‑owned car park with public toilets and around 65 parking spaces. The project may also include improvements to nearby streets and parking to create a safer and more welcoming area.
Why are we thinking about this change
The Ivanhoe Activity Centre has limited public open space within easy walking distance.
With a growing population and higher‑density housing, creating new local parks is becoming more important. Parks and green spaces provide places for people to meet, rest and spend time outdoors, supporting community wellbeing and long‑term liveability.
What is Council going to do?
Council is doing a feasibility study of the idea. Feasibility studies help Council know if ideas are possible before fully commiting.
As part of the feasibility study, Council will explore:
- different ways the site could be used
- improvements to surrounding public spaces
- how parking could be managed.
This will help Council understand how the site can best serve the Ivanhoe community.
What happens next
No decisions have been made. Community feedback will help inform concept designs and future recommendations to Council.

Leave car parks alone, they are needed for dancers, students, shoppers and Uniting church patrons. We have enough parks in Banyule.

Where are the visitors to all the apartments going to park if you take away car parks?

People come to the Ivanhoe Activity Centre to shop not to go to the park. Donaldson Creek Res and Nellie Ibbot Park are a stones throw away.

Is the council trying to kill the Ivanhoe Shopping precinct? So many businesses already lost, more to follow if this idea goes ahead.

Council won't listen to community look at the changes already implemented from the connecting Darebin to Ivanhoe report & its not 05/07 yet.

Look at the connecting Darebin to Ivanhoe report, we were supposed to have a say until 5 July but many of the changes already implemented

With more peole you need more parking, it is a no-brainer. Why would you be removing carparks but bringing more people into the area?

It seems odd that this idea is being suggested separately from the 'Connecting Ivanhoe to Darebin' Report. Its right in the zones mentioned

Why is this being suggested after the huge report was done by council connecting Ivanhoe and Darebin? It suggested a park in Kiernan Ave.

There is space for a park at the end of Kiernan Ave behind Wooloworths Ivanhoe. That way you get a park and keep the carpark. Win- win!

Why don't you put it where the old Scout hall was on the other side of the road? This is disused land that often has rubbish dumped there.

It will be like the North East link they will placate the public by giving us a say and then go ahead and do what they want anyway.
