About the site

We are looking at the possibility of transforming 109 Waterdale Road, Ivanhoe, into a new local park for the community.

The site is currently a Council‑owned car park with public toilets and around 65 parking spaces. The project may also include improvements to nearby streets and parking to create a safer and more welcoming area.

Why are we thinking about this change

The Ivanhoe Activity Centre has limited public open space within easy walking distance.

With a growing population and higher‑density housing, creating new local parks is becoming more important. Parks and green spaces provide places for people to meet, rest and spend time outdoors, supporting community wellbeing and long‑term liveability.

What is Council going to do?

Council is doing a feasibility study of the idea. Feasibility studies help Council know if ideas are possible before fully commiting.

As part of the feasibility study, Council will explore:

  • different ways the site could be used
  • improvements to surrounding public spaces
  • how parking could be managed.

This will help Council understand how the site can best serve the Ivanhoe community.

What happens next

No decisions have been made. Community feedback will help inform concept designs and future recommendations to Council.

I think that any new public green space is great. A carpark in Heidelberg is now becoming apartments instead of park space.

cover the car park with a flat roof that is a combined park/green space and solar panels. Roof flush with pocket park so there's easy access

Question as to whether there is a need for a park, as the carpark is essential for all the surrounding business/shops/cafes & church

Green space is a great asset near shops but from the business point of view carparking is essential for successful trading.

I would love to have a park there, I can grab a coffee or lunch from the shops and sit and relax, away from the busy street.

you need more parking, no parking business suffers. all people can't walk or cycle to ivanhoe. where can you park? make a large car park

We need parking for the local area still - what are the possibilities of building a park on top of the carpark so we can have both?
