Residential housing developer chosen for Bellfield Project

We are excited to announce Glenvill Developments will deliver a new private residential development as part of the Bellfield Project, revitalising the former Banksia La Trobe Secondary College and adjacent sites into a community precinct.

On the corner of Oriel Rd and Banksia St, three apartment buildings of varying heights, with a maximum of 5 storeys, will overlook Ford Park. To the east, a range of 2-to-4 storeys townhouses with rear laneways will be built, plus a new road to connect Banksia Street and Perkins Avenue.

Urban design guidelines for the site ensure the apartment buildings and townhouses include environmentally sustainable design and offer a variety of sizes and styles for residents. Construction will happen in 3 separate stages over the next 3-4 years and is expected to begin by early-2023.

Glenvill’s residential housing will complement a separate 4-storey eco-friendly social housing on the site’s eastern boundary to be delivered by Launch Housing, expected to be finished by mid-2023. The pedestrian-friendly precinct will offer plenty of green open space and trees, including retaining many existing trees.

Banyule Mayor Cr Rick Garotti said Council was delighted to see the vision for the Bellfield project start to gather pace after years of planning and consultation with the community.

“There is so much happening in this area with Council already starting construction of its impressive $11.70 million community hub, which will be home to a range of Council services for the young and old, plus a community garden and a social enterprise café,” Cr Garotti said.

“This sits alongside a social housing development that not only inspires architecturally and environmentally, it will deliver housing security for people in need. There is even an urban farm growing from strength-to-strength next door, and across the road, you see a multi-million-dollar transformation of recreational facilities being delivered by the North East Link Project in partnership with Council at Ford Park.”

“This pocket of Bellfield is a great example for other councils and levels of governments on how to form partnerships and transform an idle space into a thriving and sustainable community precinct. This is the future of sustainable living where residents benefit from having it all on their doorstep,” Cr Garotti said.
