Project update

We consulted with the community and received feedback from 32 community members through an online survey and emails sent directly to our Open Space Planning Team.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions about the playground renewal.

Some of the feedback we received was included into the final design.

The playground was redesigned to include:

  • activities for younger children, such as:
    • a tell the time panel
    • a shop panel
    • a steering wheel; and
    • maintaining access stairs to ensure usability for toddlers.
  • an additional concrete path instead of a gravel area
  • improved drainage
  • additional signage to remind dog owners of their responsibilities around playgrounds.

We also received requests to provide a community garden, fitness equipment, trampolines, a flying fox and an all abilities swing.

We explored different options on how to incorporate your feedback into the designs. Unfortunately due to budget constraints and existing commitments, we are unable to achieve these outcomes, however the playground at E.J. Andrews Reserve in Briar Hill will be updated in early - mid 2023 to be an inclusive playground.

The Harrington Reserve playground works are now complete.

About the space

Harrington Reserve is situated in Montmorency and is accessible from Orr Lane and Sackville Street. It has an existing play unit, 2 swing sets, shade sails and a basketball half court.

This playground is well used by local families and is now scheduled for renewal. We are excited to continue to provide a high-quality playground experience and are seeking your feedback on the proposal.

Improving your playground

We have replaced the existing playground with new and improved equipment to meet the needs of the local community. The new equipment have a range of play opportunities, with a paved area, picnic table, and seating areas connected to the existing basketball half court. The playground has a nature play section including logs and rock boulders giving it a softened appearance and connecting it to the natural environment.

Improvements include:

  • Play equipment with slides, climbing play unit and junior play panels
  • A triple swing set with a nest swing, traditional and toddler swing
  • New seating and picnic table
  • Tree planting
  • New concrete area
  • Extended basketball half court and netball area
  • New drinking fountain
  • Nature play area
