More than a name

Place names are more than just names. They help tell the story of our community. They recognise places that are important to our history and culture, and they reflect who we are as a community. Place names help shape Banyule’s identity.

Clear and consistent place names are important for everyday life. They help people find locations, support deliveries and services, and allow emergency services to reach people quickly and safely. Place names are also an important part of our cultural heritage.

Banyule Council is responsible for naming roads, buildings and places across the city. This process follows clear rules set by Geographic Names Victoria, and includes asking the community for feedback so names reflect our shared values and diversity.

Have your say on how we name future places and spaces in Banyule.
