Construction to commence

26 February 2019

Construction is about to start on the new Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub which will transform the current library and civic building, while sensitively responding to the heritage of the Town Hall.

We are investing more than $29 million to deliver this state-of-the-art centre which will be home to a range of community services, including:

  • a modern, accessible library
  • an art gallery and artist studio
  • community meeting spaces
  • Maternal and Child Health consulting suites
  • an informal theatrette; a café and an outdoor civic plaza.

Buxton Construction has been appointed builders. Construction is scheduled from mid-February 2019 to September 2020. Construction hours: Monday-Friday 7am-6pm; and Saturday, 7am-3pm.

Minimising the construction impacts on the community is a priority. Traffic management plans will be put in place and information sent to affected residents.

What will happen to local services during construction?

  • The existing Ivanhoe Library will remain open and continue to offer the same services.
  • Ivanhoe Service Centre has relocated temporarily to Ivanhoe Aquatic at 4 Bond St, Ivanhoe, and is open: Monday to Friday, 8.30am-5pm.
  • Council Meetings will be held at Council Civic Offices, Level 4, 1 Flintoff St, Greensborough.
  • The Centre Ivanhoe will remain open. It is, however, undergoing a kitchen renovation which will limit the type and scale of events it will hold.
  • The number of car parking spaces will reduce from 223 to 143. See detailed map.
