Current Situation

Knight Street is located just north of the center of Watsonia. The eastern end of Knight Street is a cul-de-sac that adjoins AK Lines Reserve. The area sits between a primary school and a sports oval and lacks any passive surveillance. For some time, illegal rubbish dumping, anti social activity and a negative perception of safety have been issues in the area. Managing the continual clean up of waste and rubbish and responding to antisocial activity is also costing Council financially.

Notice of proposed road closure

Council proposed to close a section of Knight Street (east of Meagher Street) and was open to receive submissions on the proposal until 15 September 2017.

What is the proposed development?

Council presently owns the properties at 21, 23, 25, 27, 29 and 31 Knight Street. It is intended to close road access to the eastern edge of Knight street (east of Meagher St) and consolidate that road reserve with these properties to form one large land parcel.

The land parcels of 21-31 Knight Street are owned by Council and are zoned General Residential Zone. The properties were acquired by Council over a number of years and the dwellings were demolished due to their poor state.
