Our new Plan

We are thrilled to present our LGBTI Plan 2017-2021. We have developed this plan which focuses attention on the needs of LGBTI communities in Banyule and details how Council, in collaboration with others, will work towards equality and enhanced outcomes for LGBTI communities. The Plan is guided by the Inclusion, Access and Equity Framework 2017-2021.

The LGBTI Plan 2017-2021 was adopted by Council on 4 June 2018.

Why create a Plan?

When people have opportunities for participation in community life, the whole community benefits. Council acknowledges that the wellbeing of certain groups, including our LGBTI communities, can be impacted more than others and requires a greater level of attention.

The new LGBTI Plan identifies strategies to address barriers faced by LGBTI communities and seeks to create more opportunities for participation and involvement. These strategies also seek to foster respect and cohesion within the community.

How the Plan was developed

The Plan has been developed through three phases of consultation with the community:

  1. Setting a vision for the LGBTI Plan
  2. Creating the Priorities and Key directions
  3. Public Exhibition of draft plan

We have worked in partnership with our LGBTI Advisory Committee, which comprises representatives from key community organisations and community members.

Achievements

Each year we continue to build on our successes and partnerships for implementing the Plan. Throughout 2014-2017 we have worked closely with our LGBTI Advisory Committee who advise Council on undertaking projects and identifying new and emerging issues and opportunities. Take a look at the below Achievements Reports for examples of the collaborative work undertaken.
