About the space

Johnson Reserve is a small park in Heidelberg Heights that is popular with local families. The reserve has a newly constructed shelter with BBQ’s and an open grassy area alongside the playground.

Improving your playground

The location of the playground will not change and will continue to provide a range of equipment for children between 0-12 years of age.

A feature of the new play space will be a dry stream bordering one side and incorporating logs, rocks and plantings. The dry stream will begin at the drink fountain where a timed tap will be installed to allow children to release small amounts of water onto a sealed section of the dry stream. The concept includes an additional canopy tree to provide shade over the playground in the future.

Traditional play elements such as a swing, slide and rocker are also part of the new proposal. Three new swings are proposed including a basket swing, toddler swing and adult swing. The double rocker will be retained and refurbished. It’s hoped that this blend of traditional play and nature play will provide a natural play escape for young children in this largely built up area.

Background

In 2016/17 the community worked with Council to develop a Master Plan for Johnson Reserve. During this process the community asked to see nature play elements incorporated into the park, adjacent to the picnic shelter. We are now looking to do this in conjunction with the playground renewal and would like to hear your thoughts on the designs.
