We have rich precinct-specific data from 78 completed surveys and 73 conversations at the Diamond Village Market and Watsonia Road Shops pop-ups on 11 and 25 May 2024. Additionally, 11 people from North West Precinct participated in the Community Vision workshops.

Who are we?

The population is 19,174 and is forecast to grow by 10.01% by the year 2041. There are 50.2% Males and 49.8% Females in North West Precinct. The average age is 39 years with 36.2% people aged 50 years and over. 26.4% were born overseas and 27% speak a language other than English at home. The unemployment rate is 4.8% with an employment rate of 62.3%. The average weekly household income is $1,849 and the Socio-economic rating is 1035, compared with 1058 for Banyule.

Health and Wellbeing

When asked about their future physical health, the North West Precinct rating is 7.1 out of 10 stars, while the Banyule wide rating is 7.3 stars. 11% of people in the North West Precinct said their physical health will get worse. 65% of the people in the North West Precinct said their physical health will stay the same. 24% of the people in the North West Precinct said their physical health will get better. When asked about their future mental health, the North West Precinct rating is 7.3 out of 10 stars, while the Banyule wide rating is 7.5 stars. 10% of people in the North West Precinct said their mental health will get worse. 70% of the people in the North West Precinct said their mental health will stay the same. 20% of the people in the North West Precinct said their mental health will get better. When asked about their future social wellbeing, the North West Precinct rating is 7.2 out of 10 stars, while the Banyule wide rating is 7.5 stars. 11% of people in the North West Precinct said their social wellbeing will get worse. 73% of the people in the North West Precinct said their social wellbeing will stay the same. 16% of the people in the North West Precinct said their social wellbeing will get better.
Health and Wellbeing

Project – Bundoora Tennis Club Upgrade, stage 2 which is the synthetic pitch is planned for in the 2025 to 2026 budget as part of the Future Capital Works Program. Project – New Playground at NJ Telfer Reserve and work out co-location opportunities is planned for in the 2024 to 2025 and 2025 to 2026 budget as part of the Future Capital Works Program and Community Infrastructure Plan. Priority area – Advocate for redevelopment of Watsonia Station ongoing. Project – Build new Female Friendly Change Rooms at Elder Street Baseball Pavilion is planned for in 2025 to 2026 and 2026 – 2027 as part of the Future Capital Works Program. Project area – Advocate for State Bowls Centre at Bundoora Bowling Club ongoing. Project – Watsonia Square is planned for in the 2024 to 2025 and 2025 to 2026 as part of the Future Capital Works Program. Project area – Advocate for better design outcomes for North East Link around Watsonia ongoing. Project – Investigate opportunities for an improved JET facility that meets the needs of young people is planned for in the 2024 to 2025 and 2025 to 2026 Community Infrastructure Program. Project – New Playground at Greenwood Reserve is planned for in the 2026 to 2027 budget as part of the Future Capital Works Program. Project – Install outdoor basketball courts for Telfer Reserve is planned for in the 2024 to 2025 and 2025 to 2026 as part of the Future Capital Works Program. Project – Building improvements for Watsonia Neighbourhood House is planned for in the Community Infrastructure Plan for 2027 onwards.
