Diamond Village
Diamond Village Shopping Centre is in the heart of Watsonia. Located at 78 Nepean Street, it's been part of the community since the 1970s and remains a vital hub for residents of the Watsonia and Greensborough communities.
The centre has a mix of locally-owned shops, and nearby you'll find the the Delta Road Playground and Traffic Park, which has a connection to the days of the VicRoads office.
Following feedback received during Banyule Futures engagement in 2024, this project foucuses on strengthening Diamond Village as a safe, easy-to-access community hub. It also aligns with Council and State Government policy to make sure that local activity centres are attractive, cherished, inclusive and easily accessible.
To get this right and to make sure that any changes serve the local community, we need your help.
Engagement stages
We'll ask the community to tell us what they see as the challenges and opportunities for Diamond Village.
This stage of engagement will also build on what we heard during the Banyule Futures engagement in 2024.
We'll ask the community to share their feedback on the draft Diamond Village Neighbourhood Activity Centre Plan.
The draft plan will make planning recommendations to address a range of important matters like:
- providing safe and quality facilities
- providing a diverse range of services
- providing quality spaces for the community to meet
- providing safe and effective pedestrian and cyclist connections
- supporting good design which aligns with the community’s preferred look and feel.
We will also seek your feedback on draft plans for streetscape improvements, which may vary from minor improvements, such as new footpaths, to larger improvements, such as the installation of toilet facilities.
Our community is made up of diverse cultures, beliefs, abilities, bodies, sexualities, ages and genders. We are committed to access, equity, participation and rights for everyone: principles which empower, foster harmony and increase the wellbeing of an inclusive community.
Banyule City Council is proud to acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people as traditional custodians of the land and we pay respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders, past, present and emerging, who have resided in the area and have been an integral part of the region’s history.
