Greensborough War Memorial Park is a well-loved meeting place and sports venue for the Banyule community. It has a sporting pavilion, a war memorial, playground, basketball key, Henry St Community Hall, two public toilets and a rotunda. The Park hosts up to 5000 people for key events throughout the year, including Anzac Day, Banyule’s Carols by Candlelight and key sporting games.

In 2002, we developed a Masterplan to improve recreation, function, beauty, and learning in the park. Most of the actions in the Masterplan are now complete, but there are still some exciting improvements coming including upgrades through the Banyule Youth Spaces Plan and Public Toilet Plan, and some remaining actions from the original Masterplan to make the park even better.

We've drafted a holistic Park Improvements Plan to make sure changes deliver long-term benefits and a better experience for everyone using the park. The Plan aims to make the park easier to use and more inclusive and welcoming for everyone. We’re planning a new purpose-built area for young people, a new toilet in a better location, and general upgrades to access and amenities across the park. Council has already worked with local schools and sporting clubs to shape this draft holistic improvements plan, and now we want to hear from the wider community.

The holistic Improvement Plan for Greensborough War Memorial Park includes:

  • relocation of the War Memorial (currently under construction)
  • relocation and upgrading the public toilet facilities, including demolition of both existing toilet blocks (2026/2027)
  • a new youth space, including a multi-dimensional adventure play climbing structure, a multi-use ball game area with seating and amenities (construction 2027-2028)
  • oval reconstruction, including perimeter path (construction 2028/2029)
  • relocation of the existing BBQ closer to the existing playground, including a picnic shelter
  • gardenbed and lawn improvements including making the area around the war memorial more beautiful, planting around the edges of the park, planting of small plants and shrubs near the playground and general improvements
  • new path connections and a review of lighting, seating and general improvements across the park

We want to hear your feedback on these proposed improvements to help us plan and deliver changes over the next few years.

Tell us what you love and what improvements you'd like to see at Greensborough War Memorial Park!
