Watsonia Town Square - August Update

19 August 2024

Changes to Watsonia Road parking from 21 August 2024

Over the next two weeks we’re creating six more parking spaces on the west side of Watsonia Road between Morwell Avenue and Tennyson Street. Some existing parking spaces won’t be available while we are carrying out this upgrade.

The parking configuration will be converted from 60-degree to 90-degree spaces, which will create additional 6 parking spaces and allow for the upgrade of existing accessible parking to meet current standards.

These works have been proposed after careful consideration of existing sight visibility, infrastructure constraints and requests from traders.

The work will involve changing the kerb alignment. We will remove and replace some asphalt and footpath surfaces and add new line marking. We’ll need to occupy some parking spaces while we carry out this work.

We understand that this change may take some time for drivers to adjust to, but we believe it will enhance parking availability and convenience for both traders and visitors. We will continue to monitor the situation following the changes.

Other works around Watsonia Town Square

  • Installing speed humps around the Morwell Avenue carpark
  • Completing the brick-coloured finish on the pedestrian crossings in and around Morwell Avenue and High Street to make them more visible. We’ll maintain access by closing one lane at a time while we do this work. It was delayed because of weather conditions – it has been too cold for the finish to dry properly.
  • Asphalting on Grace and Morwell Ave
  • New parking signs in the Morwell Ave carpark
  • Some planting around the site

Stage 2 of Watsonia Town Square will be underway soon– we’ll keep you posted!

We appreciate your patience and understanding while we build Watsonia Town Square.

Extreme weather can impact on construction plans, but we will keep you informed of any changes.
