Watsonia Town Square - June 2025 update

3 June 2025

We’re pleased to open more sections of Watsonia Town Square as we get closer to completing this project.

Parking and pedestrians

We are aiming to complete the library car park by July. We refocused the construction schedule in response to local feedback so we’ll complete it before the play area. This means that the adjacent play area will be completed after it was originally scheduled.

We are surveying parking demand in the Watsonia shopping area and will report on this at an upcoming Council meeting. We’ll look at whether we should make the temporary car park between Greenwood Drive and Kenmare Street permanent.

We’re progressively improving pedestrian access, including a temporary footpath to the library to replace the Ibbotson Street pedestrian detour. In July we’ll complete the shared user path from the Morwell Avenue carpark down to Watsonia Road.

The nature play and skateable areas, footpaths, seating and grassed area are completed. The last part of this section, with a climbing wall, landscaping and shared user path, will be completed in July.

We’re making good progress on the play area, with some play equipment and seating already in place as we work around the established trees. The orange arch is play equipment that incorporates games technology for interactive fun.
