Environment Effects Statement (EES) Forum

11 February 2019

Banyule Council North East Link – Environment Effects Statement (EES) Process and Submissions Forum – 27 March 2019

The State Government has committed to the construction of the North East Link and is moving ahead with the design, approvals and engagement of contractors. Since it was first announced, we have been working hard to get the best possible outcomes from the project for the community.

Environment Effects Statement

Major projects like the North East Link can potentially impact on the environment. Under State legislation, the North East Link Project is required to prepare and publically release an Environment Effects Statement (EES).

The final EES is likely to be around 10,000 pages long and will cover the project’s social impacts and effects on business, land use, transport, traffic, human health, environment, landscape, recreation, habitat, cultural heritage, land stability and waste management.

The EES will be publically reviewed in mid-2019; the exact date will be advertised in local newspapers and listed on the Department of Land, Water and Planning’s website. You can find out more about the EES process at planning.vic.gov.au.

Public review and panel hearings
Residents, community groups and organisations will have the opportunity to make a submission to the EES public review. Submitters on the EES will have an opportunity to speak to their submission at panel hearings which will be held over 30 business days later this year.

The panel will provide a summary of all submissions to the Minister for Planning for consideration and making a decision in late 2019.

We will host a forum in The Streeton Room, The Centre Ivanhoe, 275 Upper Heidelberg Rd, Ivanhoe on Wednesday 27 March from 6.30pm - 8.30pm. The forum will help residents understand the EES process and provide guidance on how to make a submission

We will outline the work that has been undertaking to ensure the North East Link Project provides benefits for our residents and complies with environmental protections. State Government guest speakers will also be on hand to provide detailed information on the public review and the submission process.
