Project update - May 2020

Work at Macleod Village Green is now complete.

We consulted with the community and received feedback from over 110 community members through the online survey and emails sent directly to our Open Space Planning Team.

We used your comments to make changes to the proposed designs so that this playground would better serve the community.

We heard what you said and some of the changes include:

  • Additional swings (will incl. 1 x basket swing, 2x toddler swings, 2 x standard swings)
  • A spinner, similar to existing
  • Additional log and rock seating around the playground
  • Musical play elements
  • A bridge across the dry creek bed
  • A ‘potions table’
  • Interactive play elements
  • A larger shelter
  • Garden beds and timber sculptural elements
  • Enhanced shade
  • A Swift Parrot inspired sculpture by a local artist
  • Replace and relocate train element. (the existing unit was unable to be relocated due to its poor condition)
  • Relocate picnic table to connect to the existing BBQ area; and
  • See-saw removal.

About the space

Macleod Village Green is centrally located adjacent to the Macleod shops and train station. This playground is very popular with families and is now scheduled for renewal. We are keen to continue to provide a high quality playground experience at Macleod Village Green for many years to come, and we are seeking your feedback on the proposal.

Improving your playground

We have some exciting new plans to upgrade the Macleod Village Green playground area. Thank you for your feedback on the proposed design.

As the current set up is prone to flooding, we will be reshaping the playground area and take this opportunity to upgrade the playground with some great new equipment and nature play elements. We will also update the picnic area with new shelters, picnic tables and barbeques, plus improve the access pathway. Works are planned to take place between May-July 2020.

Proposed improvements include:

  • A playground with:
    • A new, reshaped playground area
    • A combination play unit
    • A semi-accessible spinner on soft-fall rubber
    • A see-saw
    • Swing set including sling seat, toddler seat and nest swing
    • Refurbishment of the existing junior play train
    • A train themed cubby
    • Relocation of the ‘Little Free Library’ within the playground
    • A dry creek bed with feature carved boulders
    • New soft planting
    • Upgrades to the existing picnic facilities and access pathway

Check out the plans and let us know what you think!

Works are scheduled to start on 20 July 2020.
